I have been fortunate to lived in the last 2 seasons cinderalla stories with the Rockies and now the Rays. All the Rays playoff games have been on TBS and Ted Turner should be ashamed. This was confirmed when they had technical difficulties and couldn’t even show the game until the middle of the 2nd tonight (Game 6). How can that happen? Also they need to get some new material because the same comments repeated every night are getting old. If I hear about how Carl Crawford is such a great athlete with scholarships offers “to UCLA for basketball and Nebraska for football” again I may have to turn back to the 35-3 Texas Mizzou game. Then there’s the Dustin Pedroia, JP Howell High School adversaries story too. Then Craig Sager, with those stupid coats that he stole from Ron Burgandy, is worthless too. I remember better sports commentary on TBS during 80’s NWA professional wrestling. Luckily the World Series is on FOX.
Here’s some sites I discovered or re-discovered lately:
Switch from pandora to last.fm. I started to feel like pandora was turning all my different “seeded” stations into identical stations as I rated the songs. Also some recommended songs were coming from “left field”; to the point that I started to wonder if there was some payola happening. It’s still a great app and I use it on my ipod in my car – or at least until last.fm gets their app working on the latest iphone rev. Seems like last.fm has more variety and you have the option of only using groups in your library or you can use ones in neighborhood. Also you can select an actual song, if you want to listen to it as a “one off”.
Favtape – is copy of Muxtape before it got shut down. It has some nice features like playlists based on music charts or last.fm. Not sure how long this will last with the RIAA.
livestation – Great idea and not sure how they keep this legal, but I’m not complaining. It’s not going to replace SlingBox or Orb, but it’s still pretty good. I’m still waiting for all my old Denver stations to be on there, so I can watch sports.
Gigposters – If you’ve ever admired the artwork publicizing concerts, check this site out. They can also be used to make good pc desktops.
Phish – Yes, they’re back.
Dude are they all idiot career politicians with no understanding for the impact of the financial meltdown. The Dow dropped 705 points yesterday and lost over a trillion (yes, with a ‘t’) dollars of market capitalization. I speculate that it’s probably close to $2 trillion when you consider the last month of market free-fall. I think everyone agrees that this is not a perfect plan, but something needs to get done promptly at the expense of a less than optimal bill. These dumbass GOP congressmen only voted against this to try to save their asses with an election coming up and they can only do this in districts where being ‘fiscally conservative’ trumps being rational. Being in Florida I fall into that category, there are way too many grayhairs here that only think about their social security check and only read the “$700 Billion” headline. That lead my coward Republican Representative, Bill Young, to vote against the plan. There is also a sense that these same congressmen are voting against it because they feel that any plan will give forgiveness to the bankers that got us into this mess. Get over it! Were in a shitty position now and who cares how we got here – let’s just get out of it. At the minimum I really think that Bush’s presidential legacy will look better now because people are going to remember congress screwed this up and also Obama will win because the Republicans look bad after all this.
** Everyone I know would agree that I am not ‘political’, but congress really screwed this up.
Recently moving here from Denver and being pretty well traveled, I’ve come to the conclusion that Florida has some of the crappiest drivers. I mean I come from driving on snow packed highways in 100 mph white out conditions and people slowed down & looked out for each other. Granted there were more SUVs and people drove further, but come on Florida.
I’ve come to nickname cars parking in the median to turn the “Florida”. Everyone does that here and sometimes more than 1 car to turn in the same direction. Also no one ever stops at the yield signs from an off ramp. I’ve given up on this one, if I see a car coming in from a hwy offramp I just expect that they blow right through the yield. And it seems like people don’t even realize that it’s crappy driving. I mean I’ve cut people off before and I knew it was dick, but people here just don’t realize it. And I hear it gets worse once the purple-haired snowbirds move in. Damn I lived in Denver for 8 years and got hit once, I’ve only been here for 3 months and I already got backed into. When the accident happened the lady wasn’t even like “sorry” or “my bad”. It was more like here’s my insurance and “deal with it”. It’s akin to when a little kid spills their kool-aid on you and then skips saying “sorry” for “I didn’t mean to do it”.
I thought I was pretty in tune with 90’s music but apparently I missed one. I randomly DVR’d some shows on Fuse and recorded Dispatch “Zimbabwe”. I started watching it and was into them after a couple songs. I’m not sure if they were not terribly popular in the West or what, but they sold out MSG for their last show. After seeing them on TV, I quickly googled them up and found out that they had a pretty strong following in the mid to late 90’s. I’m not sure if I agree with the “jam band” label – just because a band has a “grass roots” following and no radio or label support. Nor could I imagine the dreadlocked, pechulli, crowd in college really being into them – maybe the DMB fans, but not the Phriendlies. I have quickly grabbed some Dispatch bootlegs from archive.org (great place to get some free tunes) including one of the Wetlands show. Any other sources of Dispatch boots would be appreciated. They got some catchy rifs and appear to be talented musicians. Elias, Bats in the Bellfrey, and Bang Bang are some of my favs so far. I wish I would’ve at least discovered them when I lived in Denver because I probably could have at least checked out Braddigan around there since he lives their now and has a side project. If you’re into old DMB or O.A.R., you should definitely check out Dispatch.
